Massage Therapies

Aromatherapy is the use of smell in a therapeutic way. It includes body treatments as well as the use of essential oils in a burner, for inhalation, in products and compresses.
During a treatment specific techniques are used; these might include adapted massage, acupressure and lymphatic massage to both face and body. Treatment aims are to restore harmony and natural balance. The client maybe treated with pre-blended essential oils or essential oils blended specifically for the individual client's needs. The effect of the oils can be balancing, relaxing or stimulating to name just a few. The effect of essential oils is so diverse because they have three distinct actions:

- They initiate chemical changes in the body when the essential oil enters the bloodstream and reacts with hormones and enzymes
- They have a physiological effect on the system of the body
- They have a psychological effect when the odour is inhaled.

Massage is the manipulation of the soft tissue of the body, with the aim of having a positive effect on the system of the body. There are many benefits of massage. Most of these are achieved through the systems it affects.

- It improves the micro-circulation through the area being treated, opens up the arterioles and capillaries improving exchange of fluids in the tissue in a different way from exercise.
- It promotes relaxation of the muscle tissue - tension over a period of time can lead to atrophy and fibrosis in the muscle tissue. This is a particular problem to those who stand for long periods, have restricted muscular movement or are immobile.
- The condition of the skin is improved by the natural exfoliation during the massage resulting from the friction of the therapist's hand. Increase circulation helps to keep skin nourished.
- The stimulation of cellular activity when massaging particulary around the mid-back and abdomen increases elimination of toxins.

There is a great psychological value in massage and touch. Its believed that pleasure from massage helps to release endorphins preventing pain impulses reaching the brain.
The benefit of relaxation is often UNDER-ESTIMATED. In a relaxed state the body makes use of the time to rebalance and regenerate.

A natural healing art based on the principle that there are reflexes in the feet, hands and ears and their referral areas within zone related areas, which correspond to every part, gland and organ of the body. Through application of pressure on these reflexes without the use of tools, crèmes or lotions, the feet being the primary area of application.
